Higher compression motors will benefit from a higher octane fuel as the computer can advance the timing more than a lower octane fuel can. Alcohol also has a longer burn time so the motor can create higher torque. My Vue has a 10:1 compression ratio.

I'd strongly suggest bumping the compression ratio significantly if you do actually decide to move forward with this build. There are some challenges associated with E85, though. A few are: the inconsistency of ethanol content at the pump, ethanol's affinity for water, fuel system material compatibility, and difficulties with cold start.

However, some of the S2000 builds have had 11:1 static compression with 15-18psi boost and numbers like 23 on E85. I've seen Supras with 30+psi boosts and boosted dynamic compression ratios in the 28-30:1 range.

With E85, there are some very good reads on Moaprts. DThemi has pushed this fuel to 16:1 with no power adder in his hemi to a tune of over 1200hp on the street with just E85. I would consider that about the limit right now in compression, unless anyone else has gone higher. Not to mention how he achieved that kind of compression from a hemi!
Do not use E85 in a pre-2009 6.2L. The injectors are not sized for the higher flow rate needed for E85, which only has 70% of the BTU content of E10 gasoline. So, when you go WOT with E85 on a 2007-8 6.2L, the injectors go "static", meaning they never close. This washes the oil off the cylinder walls and causes erosion damage to the cylinder bores.

On gasoline, engines run best when the air/fuel ratio is 14.7:1 (14.7 parts fuel to 1 part air). Ethanol and E85 have a lower optimum air/fuel ratio. In order the get the same power your engine will need more Ethanol (or E85) than it would gasoline, because gasoline has more energy per unit of mass than biofuels or mixtures do.
